Nanaimo: Bathtub Race Capital of the World

posted by Dorchester Hotel on November 27, 2011 11:43:39 AM

From an amazing start in 1967 as part of Nanaimo’s Centennial activities, the Bathtub race has become an annual event dubbed the Nanaimo “Great” International World Championship Bathtub Race along with a 4 day Nanaimo Marine Festival.

Nanaimo Bath Tub Race

This unique Vancouver Island  race was originally across the straits of George to Fisherman’s Cover near Vancouver on the mainland. The adventurous tubbers now race around two local islands, Entrance and Winchelsea, then back to Departure Bay in Nanaimo.

Nanaimo Marine Festival

The Nanaimo Marine Festival also hosts an number of other events and activities that fun to watch and participate in.

The 2011 festival’s theme is a salute to the Canadian Naval Centennial and the salute will also be the theme for the “Sail Past on Wheels Fun Parade” on the Saturday of Bathtub weekend.
