Shopping
The Alberni Harbour Quay, a colourful collection of waterfront shops, galleries, and eateries, is also where you'll find the clock tower, which grants panoramic views of the Alberni Inlet. Here you'll also find the boarding area for the MV Lady Rose, a passenger and freight vessel that offers scenic journeys to Bamfield and Ucluelet on the west coast.
Recreational Activities
A huge range of activities is available from Port Alberni, everything from guided fishing charters, helicopter and floatplane tours, and hiking trips, to scuba diving, golfing, kayaking, wildlife viewing, and wind surfing.
Near Port Alberni, Sproat Lake Provincial Park is a heaven for freshwater recreation enthusiasts and anglers. Here you can catch halibut, cod, and salmon. The lake is also the home base for the Martin Mars Flying Tankers, the world's largest water bomber aircraft used for fighting forest fires. Other nearby spots to visit include the Robertson Lake Fish Hatchery, the J.V. Clyne Bird Sanctuary, Paper Mill Dam Park, and Rogers Creek Park. For an unbeatable view, take the ten minute-walk to the old Lookout. And be sure to stroll the Harbour Quay.

The Elk Tree Project
One of the last examples of old growth cedar trees in the Tofino area, the Eik Tree remains as a result of the determination and efforts of the locals who have worked to keep the tree standing, and now are raising funds to fit the tree with a steel reinforcement.

Shopping
Tofino isn’t really a place that one thinks of as a shopping destination. However, there are a number of surf shops, places to eat out, souvenir and gift galleries in the area. Most are located along Main Street, so be sure to take a walk and support the local retailers.  |
