Vancouver Island Hotel Blogs

Spring has arrived in Victoria, making it one of the best times of year to visit beautiful Vancouver Island. A simple walk along the water is a great way to take in the fresh air and the rich display of life nature has prepared for you. But any lover of natural beauty will have to pay a visit to The Butchart Gardens. There, you’ll find a “Spring Prelude” indoor garden, filled with flower cherries and beds of daffodils and tulips where you can relax and take in one set of scents before experiencing the rest of the garden, which the warm weather is now bringing to life. The tulips are particularly extravagant in the spring, so be sure to visit them in the Italian Garden.

Spring is also one of the many times Victoria offers a rich selection of cultural events. Until March 21st, the Phoenix Theatre at the University of Victoria is staging Peter Shaffers Amadeus, the original play that inspired the famous film. Full of life and music, it’s a very worthwhile theatre-going experience. If your tastes run to the literary, the Malahat Reviews Literary Symposium will be held at the University of Victoria from March 20th-22nd, featuring panels, readings and an opportunity to meet fellow literature scholars and enthusiasts.

Finally a different sort of feast entirely awaits on March 19th at Culinaire, Victoria’s premier food tasting experience. For an entry fee, you can sample a wide variety of cuisine from Victoria, The Cowichan Valley and Saltspring Island. Spend the afternoon snacking and sipping wine with friends - there are worse ways to pass a spring afternoon.

And of course a highlight of your trip will always be the service you receive in your Best Western hotel here on Vancouver Island. We look forward to seeing you!
