Cranberry Harvest Days: Oct 1 + 2
This one’s coming up quickly! Nothing says fall like a bowlful of glistening cranberries, and local producers Yellow Point Cranberries are welcoming the public to their farm for a beautiful day of tasting and tours. Head over to the farm in Ladysmith, not far from Chemanius and the Nanaimo airport, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on October 1 and 2 to taste-test more than 200 varieties of cranberries and complimentary tours at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12 noon.
Clayoquot Salmon Festival: Oct 15 – 19
The salmon are making their run throughout Vancouver Island, and trust us, it’s a sight you’ll want to see! This local festival highlights the cultural, historical, environmental and economical importance of this great fish with a host of activities and events for all ages. This event is free, and takes place daily along Tofino’ beaches.
17th Annual Japanese Cultural Fair: Oct 22
Head on over to the Esquimalt Recreation Centre in Victoria on October 22 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for a day of traditional Japanese entertainment, cuisine and more. Totally free for everyone, this lovely interactive event features demonstrations of Bon Odori dancing, Taiko drumming and martial arts by local groups, as well as ikebana flower arrangements, a Japanese tea ceremony, traditional calligraphy and a CosPlay presentation, as well as kids’ activities and a craft table. There will also be plenty to eat, with bento lunch boxes, sushi, baked goods and a few Japanese-Canadian creations including the yaki-soba dog and the YYJ dog.
